Welcome to BRAD’s About Us Homepage!
As the Deaf and hard of hearing Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender communities in central Ohio grew in great numbers, a group of seven deaf individuals, Micheal Cardosi, Bob Donaldson, Rolf Hagton, Todd Higgins, Tim Miller, Perry Mott and Steven Ripple, recognized the need for a central organization in the State of Ohio to bring together Deaf and hard of hearing Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) individuals as one united group. Thus, March of 2000, with the support of our seven founders, a chapter of the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf (RAD) was founded in Central Ohio. This chapter is now known as the Buckeye Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf (BRAD). BRAD is open to any interested individuals who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing and Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender, and heterosexual individuals who are supportive of our GLBT community.
The purpose of Buckeye Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf is to protect and promote the interests and well-being of Deaf and hard of hearing, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons; to improve social and educational opportunities for our members and to increase awareness on the needs of Deaf and hard of hearing gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender communities and to support and promote our cause as equal citizens in our land of democracy.
